Painting 1 (Arts2316 2316)

This course is an introduction to the basic elements of painting to students with little or no experience. Students will work with water-based acrylic colors and explore the various ways paint can be handled. Specific exercises will be given to allow students to explore color, light, texture, transparency, impasto and composition, as well as the use of painting with additives and mediums. Furthermore, essential techniques of color and tonal development, painting application, and form will be taught. Students will learn how to manipulate paint, while also learning how to add three-dimensionality and perspective to their paintings. Class development will be flexible so that students working at different levels of experience can work at their own pace. The goal is to give students a basic foundation for working in acrylic based paints and a solid platform to pursue a more advanced level of painting.
