Welcome to my Learning Web!
I am a full-time Biology Professor teaching primarily at Central campus and online. I have taught at HCC for 30+ years and have served as Department Chair for 5 years at Central. I provide a variety of study tools to accommodate different learning styles. I offer a simple and uniform organization of the courses in Canvas so that my students spend lesser time to understand the course set-up, and spend more time studying. I follow the required curriculum and maintain rigor. I challenge students to integrate and apply their knowledge. I help the students in preparing for their future education and professional careers.
During the past years, I have enrolled in credit courses to learn graphic design, animations (2D & 3D), and web design software. Technology has become my new passion and I use it extensively to create tools and resources for the students and faculty at HCC. I actively mentor faculty in use and organization of technology in their courses. I use Eagle Online CANVAS Learning Management System (http://eagleonline.hccs.edu) to teach traditional face-to face, as well as online (distance education) courses.
I have collaborated and written several grants to acquire funds to help the students financially and academically. Some of the major grants and innovative projects that I have managed in the past are:
1.  Alternate Assignments 2021-2022: Updated Biology Lab Review Pages for students and faculty in HCC district (hccs.edu/biologylabs).
2.  HCC and UST Department of Education Grant 2011-2016: A 5.9 million dollar grant to update chemistry equipment and coordinate undergraduate STEM research opportunities for HCC faculty and students in partnership with University of St. Thomas.
3. Chancellor's Innovation Fund Award (CIFA) 2013-2014: Designed and developed Interactive eLabs for flexible biology lab offerings.
4. Chancellor's Innovation Fund Award (CIFA) 2011-2012: Developed Biology Lab Review Pages (hccs.edu/biologylabs) for use in biology lab courses.
5.  NSF STEM Scholarship Grant 2009-2013: A $491,728 grant to provide scholarships and academic support to a competitively selected group of students interested in pursuing science careers.
6. Dept. of Defense (DoD) Instrumentation and Curriculum Development Grant 2000-2001: A $143,000 grant to add computer technology and physiology equipment in the labs for student and faculty.
I created and managed STEM website (2015-2021) to keep HCC students and faculty updated on teaching and learning resources: hccs.edu/stem)
I have also worked on Learning Communities for Health Sciences and started Science Club @ Central.
Besides teaching, I like fishing, camping, cooking, drawing and spending time with family, especially with four precious grand-kids!
