Robin Akkerman Biographical Statement:
At a very young age I developed a passion for art with specific interests in fantasy and mythological themes. Drawing became my strength a skill that was achieved through many classes and practice. Art became the tool to which I used to escape from reality. Knowing that this was my calling in life, I chose to attend college to study further into the meaning of art and myself. Throughout school I achieved a better understanding of who I am as an artist and how I could communicate my world to an audience. Creating art means I am in a relationship with myself. Like putting together a puzzle, I learned what I add to my work gives it strength and with patience the work tells me what to subtract. The end result is a conformation of my research that includes childhood experiences, imagery of animals, the women figure from different cultures, and inspiration derived from a number of fantasy oriented ideas.
