The JASON Project is a 501(c)(c3) non-profit organization that connects students with scientists and researchers in real- and near-real time, virtually and physically, to provide mentored, authentic and enriching science learning experiences.
The growing field of public participation in scientific research (PPSR) includes citizen science, volunteer monitoring, and other forms of organized research in which members of the public engage in the process of scientific investigations: asking questions, collecting data, and/or interpreting results.
World's LARGEST open-source, community driven effort to characterize the microbial diversity of the Global Gut. All US and International participants welcome.
Research often involves teams of scientists collaborating across continents. Now, using the power of the Internet, non-specialists are participating, too. Citizen Science falls into many categories. A pioneering project was SETI@Home, which has harnessed the idle computing time of millions of participants in the search for extraterrestrial life. Citizen scientists also act as volunteer classifiers of heavenly objects, such as in Galaxy Zoo. They make observations of the natural world, as in The Great Sunflower Project. And they even solve puzzles to design proteins, such as FoldIt. We'll add projects regularly—and please tell us about others you like as well.
The Zooniverse is home to the internet's largest, most popular and most successful citizen science projects (brought to you by the Citizen Science Alliance at http://www.citizensciencealliance.org). Our current projects are here but plenty more are on the way. Anything from exploring the surface of the moon to watching for life on the ocean floor to studying the ancient Greeks. If you're new to the Zooniverse, we suggest picking a project and diving in - the same account will get you into all of our projects, and you can keep track of what you've contributed by watching 'My Zooniverse'. FUN and useful at the same time!
