Educause West/Southwest Regional Conference 2011
Tom Haymes and Jordan Carswell presented a poster session at the Educause West/Southwest Regional Conference 2011 about the process of unifying all six colleges and the district on a single Learning Web platform to meet the new requirements for public institutions of higher education in Texas to make provide Internet access to course information. From the poster:
"In August 2010, Houston Community College began implementation of a district-wide version of its popular faculty online publishing platform, The Learning Web, to meet the requirements of HB 2504.
"The redesign was completed in-house with software development by a leading open source solutions provider and was implemented using a deliberate strategy centered on usability.
"Six months later, over 2,500 faculty have self-registered and added 8,000+ course syllabi and more than 11,000 learning resources with minimal training and support."
