Principles of Real Estate I (RELE 1301)

Introduction to the real estate profession. Purpose: This course is designed to provide the student with an understanding of the basic principles and business fundamentals of real estate. The student will have a working knowledge of the language of real estate and begin to build a foundation for passing the license exam or knowledge for use in personal business. Course completion is required by the Texas Real Estate Commission prior to taking the real estate license examination.

Overview of licensing as a real estate broker or salesperson. Includes ethics of practice as a license holder, titles to and conveyance of real estate, legal descriptions, deeds, encumbrances and liens, distinctions between personal and real property, appraisal, finance and regulations, closing procedures, and real estate mathematics. Covers at least three hours of classroom instruction on federal, state, and local laws relating to housing discrimination, housing credit discrimination, and community reinvestment. Fulfills at least 30 of 60 hours of required instruction for salesperson license.

End of Course Outcomes (WECM):

Describe the principles of real estate and how they apply to the real estate industry; list the requirements for a real estate license; explain ethical behavior in the world of real estate; and distinguish differences between personal and real property.
