Welcome to Government at Houston Community College!

I teach the two basic required government courses at HCC - Govt 2305 (Federal Government) and Govt 2306 (Texas Government), as well at Govt 2107, a one-hour "bridge course" in Federal and Texas Constitutions.

Govt 2305 - Federal Government

This is a web-enhanced class that allows students to do more independent research and writing than in a typical classroom course. Your grade is based entirely on weekly research assignments and online quizzes, rather than on comprehensive exams. Students will use the Eagle Online system to take quizzes and submit assignments.

There is one required textbook for Govt 2305, and it's FREE as part of our Z-Degree program.

The book is embedded, a chapter at a time, in Canvas, but you can look at the entire book here: https://openstax.org/details/books/american-government-2e

Govt 2306 - Texas Government

This is a web-enhanced class that allows students to do more independent research and writing than in a typical classroom course. Your grade is based entirely on weekly research assignments and online quizzes, rather than on comprehensive exams. Students will use the Eagle Online system to take quizzes and submit assignments.

There is one required textbook for Govt 2306, and it's FREE this summer as part of our Z-Degree program. (Note: There may be a fee - currently $35 - starting with the fall, 2022, semester)

The book is embedded, a chapter at a time, in Canvas. Info here: https://www.vitalsource.com/products/texas-government-2e-terry-gilmour-andrew-teas-v9781951283155

Govt 2107

If you were here a few years ago and took Govt 2302, but never took Govt 2301, relax - you do not have to take both semesters of government over again. BUT, you will need a one-hour "bridge" course about the Federal and Texas Constitutions, along with either Govt 2305 or Govt 2306 to complete your two required semesters. You don't need a textbook. Everything you need is on the internet.
