COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Introduction to construction materials, methods, and their applications
Credit 3 (3 lectures)
Pre-requisites/Corequisites:
END OF COURSE OUTCOMES:
- Be able to identify the various types of construction & materials
- Show knowledge about the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of the various construction materials
- Ability to identify, compare and select the various materials for use on a specific project construction.
- Basic Elements of HES ( Health, Environment & Safety) in Construction

CLASS ATTENDANCE:
- Students are expected to attend classes regularly & on time.
- Students are responsible for materials covered during their absences and for make-up assignments.
- Students will be dropped from a course for excessive absences after the student has accumulated absences in excess of 12.5 percent of the total hours of instruction or four (4) class meetings.
STUDENT EVALUATION POLICIES
- Evaluation would constitute of a combination of quizzes, assignments & examinations. And this would be discussed in class and decided and confirmed in writing in class during the present semester. Grade shall be based on :
- Home work assignments
- Weekly Quizzes & exams
- Class room participation
- A final examination
- All assignments and exams must be written in ink or be computer printed. No use pencils allowed to improve legibility.
- Use of computer & cell phones in the class is NOT allowed, unless approved by the instructor for specific & special circumstances.
- Students are expected to behave as matured and educated adults at all times during the class. Learning discipline is an important part of the construction industry and safety.
- Student MUST have school issued email listed in order to receive class related information & other related communications from the instructor.
- Communications, written & verbal are an important part of class.
- Strict adherence to honesty and decent etiquettes is expected from all students while in class, and while dealing with each other, as well as the instructor. Violations WILL lead to expulsion from class.
GRADING SCALE
The percentage of total points that a student achieves is converted to a decimal grade as follows:
- 90% to 100% = 0= A
- 80% to 89% = 0 = B
- 70% to 79% = 0 = C
- 60% to 69% = 0 = D
- 59% &below = 0 = F
