SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC (ELMT 1402)

Instructor: Aurelio Aguilar

OBJECTIVES After completing Unit 1 of Module 1, students will be able to: 1. Define NABCEP and provide an overview of the Entry Level Exam. 2. Provide an overview of renewable energy and the solar industry. 3. Understand different PV configurations. After completing Unit 2 of Module 1, students will be able to: 1. Describe photovoltaic electric principles. 2. Discuss electricity basics in relation to PV. 3. List types of electrical currents. 4. Define electrical circuits and the two types. 5. Identify system components by name. 6. Differentiate key vocabulary and terminology of components. After completing Unit 3 of Module 1, students will be able to: 1. Understand the structure and function of photovoltaic cells. 2. Demonstrate how the current–voltage characteristic or I–V curve is a relationship between the electric current through a circuit, device, or material, and the corresponding voltage. 3. Understand how series and parallel connections differ. 4. Demonstrate how to test modules with a multimeter. After completing Unit 4 of Module 1, students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate how to conduct solar site analysis. 2. Understand different PV module mounting systems.
