Clinical-Licensed Vocational Nurse (VNSG 1163)

Course Description: A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. This course provides for the clinical application of content provided in Nursing 1334. Students gain experiences in using the nursing process in the patient-centered care of pediatric patients and their families. The emphasis is on the assessment and management of pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence experiencing stressors to their health and well- being. The patient’s developmental stage and individual needs are assessed and incorporated into the plan of care which is devised to support and strengthen the adaptive response of the patient. The role and competencies of the professional nurse as they relate to caring, safety, patient advocacy, and teaching are applied to the pediatric patient and their family within the context of the health- care team. Clinical settings include hospitals, clinics, daycare centers and other sites as appropriate.
