Nursing in Health and Illness II (VNSG 1409)

Application of the nursing process to the care of the adult patient experiencing medical –surgical conditions on the health-illness continuum. A variety of health care settings are utilized. VNSG 1409 is an introduction of common health problems requiring medical and surgical intervention. This course prepares the student to use the nursing process in the patient-centered care of persons experiencing stressors to the respiratory, cardiovascular, endocrine, reproductive, fluid and electrolyte, hematological, and immune systems. Oncological stressors will also be covered. The emphasis is on using evidenced based data to guide clinical practice. The patient’s developmental stage and individual needs are assessed and incorporated into the plan of care which is devised to support and strengthen the adaptive response of the patient. The role and competencies of the professional vocational nurse as they relate to caring, safety, patient advocacy, and teaching are applied to the adult patient within the context of the health-care team.
