Health and Illness III (VNSG 1410)

VNSG 1410 is the continuation of Health and Illness II; it includes further study of medical surgical health problems of the client including mental illness. It incorporates knowledge necessary to make the transition from student to graduate Vocational nurse. This course prepares the student to use the nursing process in the patient-centered care of persons experiencing stressors to the neurological, gastrointestinal, renal and urology, and musculoskeletal systems. The emphasis is on using evidenced based data to guide clinical practice. The patient’s developmental stage and individual needs are assessed and incorporated into the plan of care which is devised to support and strengthen the adaptive response of the patient. In addition, content related to vision and hearing is included. The role and competencies of the professional vocational nurse as they relate to caring, safety, patient advocacy, and teaching are applied to the adult patient within the context of the health-care team.
