6-8-15 Attention class. Good first day. Remember summer school is the same amount of information from a regular semester compressed into 5 weeks so we have alot of information to cover. If you want to succeed in this class it is very important that you read prior to attending lectures. Take it upon yourselves to register with CONNECT and do the online exercises, and download the test reviews I have posted on my learning web.
1. In addition to the bonus email I need another email from you with the following information in the body of the : Name, Preferred Phone Number, and preferred email address sent to [email protected] with contact info for summer school in the subject line.

These links are meant to extend your learning into current events and will be covered on the exam. Many are links that are interviews no longer than 30 minutes or films. FOR 5 BONUS points remember you may write a 5 page paper in APA style in addition to article reviews. I forgot to talk about article reviews however in your syllabus is a guide on how to write an article review. I have several articles I have posted under resources that are easy to read. Please see me for more information or send me an email.
I think today was a wonderful jumping point into the world of Psychology. I promise this will be the ride of your life however make sure you read your chapters prior to lecture regardless of calendar. I am waiting for confirmation from a 2nd speaker when Ido you will see an entry on here and a revised calendar under course information

6-12-15 1. Attention class Exam 1 has been rescheduled to Tues June 16. On Monday we will finish the brain and depending on time will start the next section. Take this weekend to read your chapters and use the various test reviews on my learning web and online using CONNECT.
2. Come to class with ideas on papers and the semester calendar has been revised with the due dates for the rought draft and the final paper, Instructions for your paper are on your syllabus and I have a file under COURSE INFO folder
3. There are times when there are community events that pertain to psychology that can earn you bonus points. Under the bonus folder I have posted 2 links for an interview about the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and a play based on the true story. The play is Friday June 28th and the links for the interview and the play have been posted under the BONUS MATERIAL folder. If you are interested in attending send me an email
6-14-15 Attention class. I emailed the director of the play referenced above and he has donated 20 tickets for a private by invite only of the show on Thursday June 27th. I am very excited about this opportunity and these tickets are for all my students and other interested adults. I will give you more details of this tomorrow in class
6-16-15 1.Due to inclement weather class has been closed. If class resumes tomorrow exam 1 will be given at that time. Take this time to study your materials. Remember this is a summer class and is fast paced so the test will have questions that may have not been covered in the lecture. As college students it is your responsibility to read all the material assigned. Remember to use the supplement that is online and that I handed out in class that states what you are responsible for knowing in addition with the page numbers.
2. As I announced in class the Council of Drugs and Alcohol donated 20 tickets for the private showing of the play on Thursday June 25th. For those of you that attend this is an opportunity for bonus points.. If you are intending on going please send me an email to [email protected] so I can have an accurate head count. 6-17-15 1 Congratulations on your first exam. For those that were absent remember I do not do make up exams however I drop your lowest test grade. If you missed this exam then this will be the grade that will be dropped.
2. Everyone has an opportunity to write a 5 page paper in APA style over any topic in Psychology or an article review of your choice from a scholarly journal or articles that I have posted. The paper is due one week after each exam. This paper will be due next Wednesday. For credit I need both an email and paper print out of your paper.
3. Due to a weather day we have missed one day of class and need to make that day up. Nadine and I have agreed that instead of coming in an extra day we can meet 30 minutes earlier for 4 days to make up for yesterday. Effective this Friday 19th we will meet from 12:00 - 2:30 and Monday and Tuesday (22-23rd) will meet from 1145 - 2:30. This will makeup for the weather day and will prepare you for the exam on Wednesday June 24th.
4. I have booked guest speakers for next week and the last week of school. We briefly spoke today about providing snacks. This is not mandatory and we will discuss this in class tomorrow.

7. Remember rough drafts are due soon and is worth 10% of your grade. All papers must be submitted via turnitin.com and a printed copy. I provided everyone with 2 templates and an annotated guide on APA writing and they are also available online. Bring them to class tomorrow so we can briefly review APA format
6-18-15 Attention class a few announcements:
1. Rough drafts are due tomorrow and it is worth 10% of your entire paper. At the present time are only a few students who have registered with tunitin.com website. Registration directions are on the syllabus. Rough drafts also include your references.
2. I have 2 APA generators under resources on my learning web to assist you with formatting your references.
3.. At the present time I have the following students that have signed up for the play. Remember this is not only free but a bonus opportunity. Due to confidentiality I have the following students signed up: TR, FC, AR, SE, EB. I need to give the director a head count. This play is open to everyone in my class and any parents that maybe interested. Send me an email if you want to add yourself to the list or have any questions. I have posted a flier for the play under the BONUS folder on my learning web.
3. We will have a guest speaker next Friday. The following students have signed up to bring in refreshments. If you would like to contribute please send me an email. Snacks are not mandatory so please do not feel you need to contribute.

1. Rough drafts were due by noon today with a 5 pm extension. Each student must upload their paper to turnitin.com, email me paper, and hand in a printed copy for your full credit. Unless you have emailed me to make special arrangements every part of the above instructions must be followed for credit.
2. This calendar has been created in order to communicate information, assignments, and announcements. For those of you that have utilized this tool CONGRATULATIONS. For 5 BONUS points copy/paste this entry and email it to me and hand in a paper copy by noon on Monday. If you are having issues with your personal printer or the school's printer include your technical issues in the body of the email to earn your points.
3. Due to weather day we will be meeting 12- 2:30 Monday-Tuesday in preparation for Exam 2 on Wednesday
4. There are still spaces open to attend the play on Thursday. If you have not signed up please send me an email in order to give the director an accurate head count
5. For those students that have not submitted papers please email ASAP or you will receive a 10 point deduction on your final paper. For students that do not follow my instructions as stated in #1 you will receive deductions as well for not following instructions. If you are having any type of technical or other you need to email me no later than Sunday by noon.
6-20-15 For students that found the lecture about behavior modification and torture interesting. There is a movie on Netflix based on a true story called "Rosewater" where a journalist is accused of being a spy in Iran.
6-22-15 Class will start tomorrow at 12 however I will be available by 11:30-1145 to meet with each student 1-1 to review your paper and your errors and for the same until the end of the week. If you cannot meet we can set up a telephone meeting to review your paper just email me or inform me in class. It would be to your benefit to take advantage of this opportunity or your final papers will reflect the grade from your rough draft
6-23-15
1. Classes will resume as scheduled from 12:30-2:30 we have made up the time lost due to last week's weather day.
2. Exam 2 is scheduled for tomorrow and will begin section 3 in preparation for the guest speaker on Friday.
3. For those students that have signed up for the play this Thursday at 7 pm plan on meeting for 5 minutes after class to coordinate.
4. Bonus paper 1 is due tomorrow by 12:30. Write a 5 page paper APA style on any topic in Psychology, article review from articles on my learning web, or an analysis of various links to films that I have posted.
5. Final papers are due on Thursday July 2 at 12:30. Any papers submitted after that time will receive a 10 point daily deduction. Each student should do all of the following: hand in printed copy, email paper to professor, and submit to turnitin.com under the heading Final Papers.
6. Though classes will resume as normal effective tomorrow I will be at the school all this week at 12 to meet with students 1-1 to review paper and comments. It would be to your advantage to take advantage of opportunity to correct errors found in all papers. I can also meet with students after class, during breaks, or via phone conference. It is your responsibility to schedule time with me. Additionally if you have additional drafts that you want to submit for my review prior to the deadline you can sumbit to turnitin under rough drafts and email me a copy.
6-24-15
1. Bonus paper #2 are due next Wednesday over any topic in Psychology, article review, or analysis of a posted link.
2. BONUS: Instructor evaluations have been posted by HCC. HCC takes these evaluations seriously and they encourage everyone to participate. For 5 bonus points complete an evaluation and just print out the confirmation or if you are having technical issues take a screen shot and email it to me. Evaluations are only available for a short amount of time and a link can be found on my learning web.6
3. BONUS: On Friday we will have a guest speaker. For 5 bonus points write a 3-5 page analysis paper of the presentation in APA style. I will cover the parameters of an analysis in class. Papers will be due the following week on Monday July 6th by 12:30.
6-26-15
1. BONUS: For 5 bonus points write a 5 page paper in APA style over the presentation. Though paper is in APA style (double space, 12' font, times new roman, etc.) this is an opportunity to write an analysis or reflection paper. This is an opportunity to reflect on what you learned today may question the social constructs that have started to unravel since the Supreme Court decision this morning. Paper is due via email and a print copy by Monday July 6th.
2. If you found the presentation interesting I have posted a linked called "Uniquely Nasty" which is a documentary on yahoo pn the persecution of the LGBT community by the US government. The link will be under the bonus folder
3. Final papers are due on Thursday July 2 by 12:30 via email, submitted to turnitin, and a paper copy
7-2-15
1. Class section 4 has started. We will have a guest speaker on Monday and meet from 12:30-2:30. I will be there early to meet with the panel and pass out papers. Test 4 is scheduled for Thursday July 9 and final Friday July 10
2. Bonus papers over play, exams 1 and 2, and guest speaker are due on Monday July 6th
3. Classes will start at 12 starting Tuesday - Thursday next week in preparation for a final review.

1. Papers can be resubmitted by Thursday at 12:00 (noon). I have created a new thread for revised final papers on turnitin.com, email me a copy, and hand in a printed copy.

Due to time restraints many have asked for extensions on bonus papers. I will extend the deadline for everyone to type up a bonus paper for exams 1-4 and guest panels by this Sat at 10 PM. Grades are due by July 12 and no late papers regardless of excuse will be accepted.
