About Me: Why 'Mrs. D'

About Me

Why Mrs. D?

When ever I introduce myself to a new class, I say that I would like them to call me Mrs. D.  I clarify that "Mrs." is different from Ms. because it means that the lady is (or has been) married and is proud to bear her husband's name.  One of the best decisions that I have made in my life was to marry Mr. Doggett many years ago.  Sunday, August 16th, we celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary.  We spent the day and night in a nice hotel in the Galleria area.  Because it was a Sunday, weekend night, the rate was almost $100 cheaper than during the week.  It was only $99 for the room and breakfast!  We had fun being away from home and the work that we normally do.  We are not rich, but we like to travel and stay in motels or hotels.  Both can be quite cheep if you look for discounts.

Most of our traveling has been done in the U.S.   The United States has wonderful amazing National Parks, especially in the Western states.  I encourage everyone to visit the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the Grand Canyon of Arizona, The giant Sequoia trees in California, and the wild virgin beaches of the northern Pacific Ocean.

We have two children- a daughter Lisa who is married without children , and a son Lee who is in the Army and is currently serving in Afghanistan.  Lee has one child, our grand son Alex who is almost 4 years old.

My husband and I both worked in education all our married life.  I started teaching in Houston right after graduating from Rice University.  Mr. Doggett is now retired but I am still teaching part time.  I love teaching in the Intensive English department at Gulfton.  The students are great.  It is the most enjoyable teaching job I have had in my long career.  If you are a student reading this, congratulations to you for your dedication to improve yourself through education.

You will never regret the time and effort that it takes to better your English skills.  Aside from being a world language, the English language is the language of two of the most important documents in the world:  the Constitution of the U.S and of The Declaration of Independence.  Study our history and culture until you understand both of those documents.  Then you will understand why the U.S. has been a blessing for so many people.  I hope that you too are blessed from your experience here in the U.S. and also here at HCC.

Sincerely,

Mrs. D
