Acting one play Review Rubric

Acting one review Rubric

Rubric for the Critical Review of a play for Acting 2

  1. The Review must be typed, double space and 12 font and should be no more than 2 pages long, max.
  2. Introductory paragraph must contain what play you saw on what night and at what theater. EX: “I attended Stages Repertory Theatre’s production of Always…Patsy Cline on June 23rd at 2:30 pm. And then a brief statement about what you expected and any other set up you think we might need to understand your paper.
  3. A short but thorough paragraph about the overall acting within the play, remember this is your opinion but give me examples of why you feel a certain way about it. Pick a couple of actors (one good and one bad, or two that were different in some way) and tell me what was good and or bad about their performance. Be specific. The more you use things from class discussion the better.
  4. A short paragraph about the Costumes in the play. Did they go with the characters (age, flamboyance, time period, etc). Did fast changes (if there were any) go well?  Did the actor look comfortable in/use their costume?  Be specific
  5. A short paragraph about the set and props. Did the scenery function well for blocking? If the scenery changed was that smooth and quick? Were the actors involved?  Did the actors use the props interestingly?  How?
  6. Closing paragraph. Here add anything I didn’t specifically ask for that might have made the production better or worse. Sum up your reaction to the play. Would you recommend to others? To a specific group of people? Everyone? No one?
  7. Please spell check and try and use appropriate paper writing language and grammar.
  8. Staple ticket onto back of paper, unless it’s miller outdoor and free.
