Math Students Share Feedback about 2013 HCC Homecoming

Two mathematics classes made a special effort to celebrate HCC's historic Homecoming events. They designed a collage to commemorate the cultural diversity, fun, food, dance, and games.
One of the seven principles of Kwanzaa was exhibited by mathematics students in the Central Mathematics Department, at HCC Central College in Houston, Texas. It is cooperative work and responsibility. Students not only study together to gain more mathematical knowledge, they danced, sang, and planned a collage to commemorate the historical event. Here are a few quotes from students: "Homecoming was fun, even though a little hectic. It made me realize just how many people from different origins can come together and learn for the sake of a better future." "What I like about the Homecoming 2013 at Houston Community College was the different races of people who study here. It is amazing." PB "Couldn't ask for a better experience to creatively enjoy an environment where knowledge reigns supreme." JD "Homecoming was a blast! It allowed students to learn and discover new cultures and experience how diverse HCC's Central Campus is." DR "It was an amazing experience to be a part of the first Homecoming at HCC." EL "Homecoming week gave us the chance to meet new people and create memories at HCC." DD "I like the bulletin board (in JDB 309 in Central College) so much that I appreciate it before every math class. These photos on the board show how my classmates like the HCC Homecoming activities, and each little pin on the map represents the country from which the students originally come. The board gives us a bigger picture of my classmates' life. The beautiful decorated fringe makes the bulletin board more attractive." ZR "Homecoming Week was really happy days for students. It is my first time to join in the campus activities after coming to the USA. My classmates in the math class show me their special culture through their pictures. I can find many funny things from the photos. Beautiful bracelets, Japanese name, even Superwoman cloth. Wow! It's amazing. I really hope I have more opportunities to have fun in the campus." GX The mathematics students hope that an annual Homecoming event will continue for years to come. It fosters unity, creativity and cooperative learning, among other enriching experiences.
