Spring 2023 Schedule (Because of the limitations of Learning Web, you will need to scroll to the bottom of this page for links to the courses here described)

Spring 2023 course modalities:

  • Online Anytime – Students can take classes online at any time. These are traditional online classes and students never come to campus. Look for the code WW when reviewing the updated schedule. These courses are also known as "asynchronous" courses.
  • Online on a Schedule – Students can take classes online at the scheduled class time that they select when enrolling. Students never come to campus, but log into their class on the scheduled dates and times using our learning management system (Canvas). These are also known as "synchronous" courses. HCC does not offer these very frequently anymore.
  • Face-to-Face – Students enroll in classes and attend in person. This is the "traditional" framework.

ENGL 2327 -- American Literature I (aka: "Early American Literature")

  • CRN: 14380 -- Online Anytime (no meetings)
    • This class satisfies the Language, Philosophy, and Culture credit requirement.
    • This class looks at American literature before 1865. While we will often place our readings into historical context, it is not a history class. I teach this class in a non-chronological manner that allows us to focus on the craft, the commonalities, and the uniqueness of the essays, poems, and short stories that we read. Reading "out of order" allows us to pay more attention to the ideas, as well as explore some exciting literature that's usually "off-the-beaten-path" of the traditional survey course.
    • Note: This class is not a prerequisite for ENGL 2328 (American Literature II.) This class focuses on American Literature before the Civil War, whereas 2328 focuses on literature after the Civil War. They do not necessarily feed into each other.
    • This is a SECOND START section of this class. It is a 12-week version of the regular 16-week course. It is not abbreviated, but works at a slightly faster pace.
      • Second Start = February 13 - May 14

Dr. V's Upcoming Schedules

If a class looks interesting, take note of its course number (e.g. ENGL 2341) and of its CRN (e.g. 13539). The course number makes sure you're in the right subject, whereas the CRN makes sure you're specifically in the section of the class that I'm teaching.
