Design I (ARTS 1311)

This course introduces the student to the basic elements specific to working in two dimensions. Simply executed problems are directed to help students visually organize and understand formal issues, such as pattern and rhythm, and the effects of line, shape, value, texture, and color on a flat surface. A variety of materials are employed to facilitate rapid solutions. This course is a fundamental course. This course will examine the interdependence of medium and image. This course is the recommended prerequisite for students preparing for classes in drawing, painting, and printmaking.
