Italian Diction (MUSI 1160-0001)

This course provides the voice student with the skills needed to sing in Italian. Basic phonetic guidelines will be taught with the use of IPA. It will also give the student a rudimentary understanding of the Italian language in order to translate and thus interpret the vocal literature. The student will learn to transcribe, translate, recite and perform pieces in Italian with the ultimate goal of being able to communicate expressively through singing. Students will also become acquainted with standard Italian vocal literature through performance and listening.
