Manuscript Guidelines for All Out-of-Class Essays
Manuscript guidelines: Each draft of all out-of-class essays must follow these manuscript guidelines:
- If you use source material, follow MLA documentation style.
- Use 1” margins at top, bottom, right, and left of each page.
- Double-space throughout (never single- or triple-space).
- There should never be any extra spaces between paragraphs (or after "returns").
- Use 12pt Times New Roman and do not use boldface.
- Italics should only be used for the title of a book or the name of a website (The Norton Reader or BBCAmerica).
- Number all pages consecutively—including the first—in the upper right-hand corner, one-half inch from the top, flush right. Type your last name before the page number on every page.
- One inch from the top of the first page only, flush left, type the following first-page information (simply double spacing):
Your Name
Your Professor's Title and Name
Your Course's Abbreviated Name and Course Number (ENGL 1301)
Submission Date
- Do not underline, italicize, or boldface your title. Never put a period after the title.
- Carefully proof read before submitting each paper to Eagle Online.
