In Race Against Fake News, Google and Facebook Stroll to the Starting Line

Many Americans get their news from Facebook, meaning via unprofessional and individual accounts of the users. They also search Google for answers, resulting in long lists of sources in which the professional media are equally weighted with fake news sources. Many are now blaming Facebook particularly for distorting Americans' understanding of politics and government. What can Google and Facebook do to address this?
