About Dr. Alvarez

Dr. Alvarez is a doctoral level counselor educator, psychotherapist, personal coach, and organizational/educational consultant; he utilizes both Eco-systemic and Archetypal psychology inquiries in his practice. With over thirty five years of combined professional experience in human services, behavioral health and education, Roman is highly accomplished in the following areas: program development of clinical-, developmental-, prevention-, and curriculum-based treatment programming; disability services; career services; training-supervision of staff; personal-interpersonal coaching; educational and human services administration. He has graduate degrees in clinical psychology and counselor education through Texas Southern University and post-graduate training in depth/analytical psychology through NOLA Jungian Seminar/Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. He currently serves as a lead counselor in Counseling & Ability Services and as an adjunct professor in Psychology at Houston Community College. He previously taught graduate school at UHCL’s psychology program, PVAMU’s counselor education program, and University of St. Thomas-Houston (UST's) counselor education and clinical mental health counseling programs. 

 

For more than 30 years, Roman has taught numerous seminars locally in various areas of counselor education and behavioral health, including cross-cultural relations, intervention-retention strategies for high risk students, ethics, intimacy & relationships, crisis intervention, trauma resolution, domestic violence prevention, addictions counseling, sex offender treatment, clinical supervision, career counseling, student success seminars, and archetypal/depth psychology.
