Colores del Carnaval Dominicano

Colores del Carnaval Dominicano is a award-winning documentary, produced by HCC Central, exploring the folkloric carnival of the Dominican Republic (the oldest in the Americas). The film examines the island's creativity through its carnival customs, traditions and music, its elaborate masks and costumes, and the many unique manifestations of the satirical Diablo Cojuelo. Identity is considered as it transforms through the blending of three cultures over five centuries. It looks at the subversive nature of carnival through its many evolutions. The film has been used in the humanities, sociology and anthropology classes at Central Campus to discuss identity and human celebrations.
