Large Genetics Projects

Link Human Genome Project Official site of the Human Genome Research Institute of the NIH (National Institutes of health). These are the people that led the HGP (Human Genome Project). Includes genetics fact sheets, talking glossary, genetics and the law, and ethics. Lots of educational resources on genomics, including animations. Link International HapMap Project A multi-country effort to find and catlog genetic differences and similarities among people. Link Human Epigenome Project A public/private consortium of scientists engaged in identifying human genome-wide methylation patterns. These methylation patterns are through to play a major role in human disease; patterns are heritable and may affect the phenotype, yet do not involve changes in DNA sequence. Link International Cancer Genome Consortium The ICGC Goal is to obtain a comprehensive description of genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic changes in 50 different tumor types and/or subtypes which are of clinical and societal importance across the globe. Link Human Protein Atlas Project The Human Protein Atlas Project is a human proteomics project that seeks to collect protein expression images of normal and cancer cells. Specific proteins are visualized under a microscope with an antibody stain. So far, 12238 genes with protein expression profiles based on 15598 antibodies have been included. The database is searchable by gene symbol or protein name. Link The Genographic Project Explores the migratory patterns of humans based on DNA data. Check out the rotatable and interactive globe of human history!
